Power Engineering Faculty of Polzunov Altai State Technical University presented a new laboratoty for power station and substation installations. The equipment was provided by Interregional Distribution Grid Company of Siberia.
This research laboratory will become a part of education procress in such disciplines as Electrotechnical and Constructional Materials Science, Metrology, Data Processing Equipment and Electronics, Electric Power Systems and Grids. Now students will be able to conduct research on advanced automated electric power metering systems, develop methods of power grid modes analysis, examine characteristics and test electrotechnical materials.
«In this lab we can simulate various processes related to electric power metering, our students will acquire new skills in the field of metrology," says Stanislav Khomutov, Dean of Power Engineering Faculty. «This lab is capable of teaching students how to use electric equipment and meter electric power correctly to interact with consumers and prevent plunder. Electric power quality assessment is urgent, that is why some test benches are devoted to energy audit issues. Another bench helps to simulate various means of bypass energy consumption avoiding metering devices. Students learn how to design an electric grid in a way that meter devices always record the energy consumed. There are test benches connected to GSM network, that transmitt the consumption data wirelessly."
There is a strategic partnership agreement between Altai State Technical University and Interregional Distribution Grid Company of Siberia. in recent years, a number of cooperation projects were implemented. Members of the company’s subsidiary Altaienergo lecture on specified topics within special disciplines. The education center and laboratories of Altaienergo conduct courses on «Installation and exploitation of electric supply systems». This academic discipline is the first at the Faculty to be studied at enterprise-based Department. Besides that, from next year the University will implement an applied bachelor program «Electric power systems» which includes a large number of practical exercises at Altaienergo.
