The Institute of Intensive Education was established in 1998 to meet the requirements of accessibility, efficiency and quality of education using distance learning technologies (DLT) . Main priority of the Institute is to prepare certified specialists under AltSTU license via information and telecommunication technologies by distance mode, or part-time distance mode of study.
The Institute offers e-learning of educational programs of higher and secondary vocational education in the city of Barnaul, as well as at places of residence for students in a number of Altai Krai residential areas. AltSTU regional resource centers give access to distance learning and information resources. Presently, AltSTU resource centers have training facilities and libraries and computer classrooms with Internet access.
In 2014, the total number of students at the Institute is 2150 students. More than 350 AltSTU lectures teach e-learning students. 70% of the Institute staff have academic degrees and titles.
Presently the Institute has launched computer-aided distance learning technologies - knowledge control system, training system of multimedia educational materials, e-Dean’s office, AltSTU distance education portal. In addition, AltSTU Distance Learning System «Stimulus» and Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment - MODUS (MOODLE) are test-launched.
10 specialty programs have been implemented distantly this academic year. Moreover, the Institute introduced e-learning distance programs of corporate training for local business.
